Dear Future Teacher: Letter to my younger self

Dear Me,

You are going to make mistakes! It is okay - we all do, but what matters is how you pick yourself back up, dust yourself off, and begin again.

There will be days when you will question everything: are you enough for your students, your spouse, your own children - yourself!?, but just know that the work you are doing is so very important. Don't be afraid to love your students - you might be the only love that they receive.

Be you - you are the only you that will ever be made, so don't place limitations on yourself to appease others - be unapologetically you! Stand up for those who are unable to stand up for themselves - you are an advocate - never forget that!

Always, no matter what the status quo says, do what is best for children! No matter where life takes you - never lose your faith and your beliefs - you will need it to keep you centered, grounded, and humble, as life elevates you to places you never imagined were possible. Never be ashamed of your struggle and always tell your story - your hurt and pain can be someone else's gain.

Step outside of your comfort zone and push yourself to levels of uncomfortableness because that is where growth happens. Don't be afraid to try new things and explore new concepts.

Remember that at the end of the day - your family is so very important and vital to you - cherish them, adore them, tell them you love them, but more importantly, show them that you love them.

Finally, love yourself and love others!

With all my love,

Me
